Travelodge

Has anyone else had problems with their sale rooms? I mistakenly booked a room for the wrong date when their £19 sale was on and now can't change it! It clearly states in their rules that I can change the date or the destination for a £5 charge. I accept I made a mistake and will pay the £5 but their computer system won't let me. Their acknowledgement email says a reply will be made within 5 working days and when I phoned after 5 working days they said actually it was 10 working days. I left a phone number but nobody has bothered to contact me. I was told on the phone that because I booked it online I have to amend it online. I would but it won't let me. I really need to change this because otherwise I will lose £49 (yes, to add insult to injury it wasn't even in the sale).

Travelodge used to be a great place to stay back in the 90s. Unfortunately it went downhill after that and has never recovered since - poor staff, poor maintainance and lots of problems. Shame!

Travelodge is like one of those Internet providers that try to defy financial gravity with bargain basement pricing and then collapse because there comes a point when fixed costs exceed income.

Running a hotel operation is massively expensive and discounted rooms at £5 or even £19 a night don't go anywhere near break-even. The only way to cut those overheads is to cut the cause of those overheads but even then there's only so much that can be slashed from staffing levels and property maintenance.

Travelodge enjoyed a great reputation way back when but the original owners have long since gone and so has Travelodge's reputation (otherwise there wouldn't be so many complaints about it on MSE.)

If you have a printed copy of the T&Cs as they related to your booking then write to Travelodge's head office (should be on Google). I'm a little surprised they actually allow any changes to be made to a discounted booking -- most hotel groups don't -- but that's their problem, not yours.

The rot set in when Forte sold them I reckon.
