How to wire sky+/dvd recorder/tv

Options
Hi

Sorry to ask a stupid question but Im really stuck on how to wire in a DVD recorder - the book which came with it is hopeless!

Ive currently got sky+, wired into a TV by scart, and a dvd player on another scart into the TV. Ive replaced the dvd player with the recorder, but the recorder isnt picking up the picture from the tv. I know I need to rewire it, but Ive tried a couple of ways and still cant get a picture on the dvd recorder.

Can anyone help?

thanks

The signal should come from the aerial into your dvd recorder and then from dvd recorder to tv.

In addition to the above you should wire the DVD's scart connection to the VCR scart on the Sky Box.
You will then be able to record programmes off your Sky+ HDD by selecting an AV channel rather than the DVD recorders internal tuner.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Unless you're just going to use it to copy Sky+ recordings, not sure why you're doing this, as you can only record the program thats showing on the screen, unlike Sky+.

Because you have Sky + you have 2 inputs. Whatever you do don't use one of the Sky inputs as your Sky+ won't work. Otherwise there are a couple of ways to do this.

    1. Connect the DVD recorder to the Sky box via a standard RF lead, and tune it to the signal but see my comment above about what you can record. Output should work in the normal way.

    2. Get a Twin scart like this with an input/output and an input and connect the boxes together. I have a DVD Home Cinema, and DVD recorder connected this way. I can't quite remember the setup I have but I think its the single end to the Sky box scart, the input/output to the DVD recorder input, and the input end to the TV. If not, just swap them around until you get the desired setup

    I connect like this

Sky+ TVout Scart > DVD recorder IN [ NOT the VCR out from Sky+ as this can have aspect ratio problems]

DVD Recorder Scart out > TVScart

TV Aerial OUT from Sky Box > DVD recorder TV IN

DVD Recorder TV OUT > TV Aerial Skt.

This gives a Composite of all the terrestrail channels + Sky + into DVD recorder allowing recording of all -- Dave
  • thanks for the replies. I will give it another go.

I am only trying to do this cos my Sky+ is getting full of kids programmes, so I thought Id clear it off a bit onto DVD for the kids!

I'll let you knwo if it works

    thanks
