Find a broker. They should be able to sort you out with a policy in your name which excludes you from driving but allows your friend to drive. Although if your friend has no motoring history at all apart from holding a licence then it probably won't come cheap I'm afraid.
Have you looked into Motability?0 -
could the op not insure his car in his own name and have the other person as a named driver.
My OH is the main policy holder for our car but i am the principal driver, in fact he doesnt drive at all now.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

Yes, they could - as I mentioned above! But of course the policy would have to exclude the policyholder (i.e. the OP) from driving as they cannot drive; as such, it's not the sort of thing that the comparison sites/direct writers will be able to accommodate.0 -

Sorry but I must disagree, at least about the direct writers bit. Plently of peopel insure vehicles they don't own - teenagers insuring cars purchased by their parents for example.
The OP and their friend can obtain a quote for a policy in the firends name but just be sure to declare that the friend doesn't own the car. There is usualy a tick box to say you own the vehicle or not on a web quote or you can just call a few insurers up.
If it were me I would do this: Call a couple of brokers for a quote. Once you have those go on a couple of price comparison websites and run quotes for the friend as the policy holder - if possible declare that they don't own the car in the search but if not given the chance then don't worry. Telephone the top 3-5 quoters that come up for a full quote, explaining the full ownership details clearly.0
