What can I have removed from my credit report?

Hello,

I just managed to get an Experian credit report. It's mostly correct but I have a couple of questions about things that might be possible to remove. Can anyone advise on the following please?

- Mint did two searches when I applied - one when they had my address details wrong. Can I have one removed?
- I have closed several credit cards and store cards recently. Some are showing as settled, some as balance £0... one even shows a small balance still. Will I be able to have closed accounts removed?
- I have several versions of my address listed, depending on the various random ways credit companies choose to interpret my pretty straightforward address: 'Flat 6 Langham House' Is this a problem, and should I remove the incorrect ones?

Thank you in advance...

You can get a search removed by contacting MINT and asking them to get it removed.

The settled account stay on there for 6 years no matter what so no, you can't get them removed i'm affraid.

Not sure on the name i'm affraid.

    Hope I helped.

If the closed accounts are showing as balance £0 it may be that they have not properly been closed by the card issuer - (depends on how recently you closed them as obviously they only update the Cred Ref agencies on a periodic basis).

Make sure you keep any details confirming the closure of the accounts and check these on the next time you get a Cred Ref report

    Thanks all.

I think part of the problem is my old Virgin card... I got into a nasty spiral of paying it off then getting hit by another few pounds or pence interest, so I finally overpaid slightly and ended up about 3p in credit. I then closed the account, as I couldn't be bothered to chase the 3p and wasn't sure if they'd even have a facility to return it.

How are credit companies supposed to know you've closed an account? Does 'settled' tell them it's closed? I want them to know that I no longer have access to the £2300-odd credit limit that Barclaycard, say, gave me... isn't it all about total available credit?

    Yes

It's certainly a factor yes. Settled accounts won't count as they are not available credit.

Definitely contest the extra search with Experian - Halifax did two identical searches for a mortgage on mine and Experian removed one straight away without contacting them.

The other closed accounts will show up as settled eventually as Experian only update once a month.

I thought that as well until I signed up for their CreditExpert 30-day free trial. My file seems to indicate that Experian actually update the files fortnightly - and always on a Sunday.

Lucky you. They only ever update mine on the 5th of each month. Wish they would update mine more often.
