    Hi folks

Do any of you have any tips for wrapping up nappy cakes in cellophane?! I don't seem to be doing that a great job! I've been laying the cake down on a sheet of cellophane, pulling up the corners to the top of the cake and securing which looks fine. But from there it goes kinda wrong, not sure what to do with the extra bits if that makes sense, i've been tucking them under the cake board and sticking them there.

Im sure there must be a tidier way of doing it, although it is hard to describe to someone I realise.

    Thanks :)
  • I create a tube of cello. Place it over the nappy cake. Then hang a bit of the nappy cake over the edge of the table and pull the cellophane down and tuck it underneath the cake board and stick to the bottom of the cake board with cellotape. Then I tie the top of the cellophane up with curling ribbon and pull bow. Hope that makes sense

Thanks, it does make sense, ill give it a go :)
  • Yes, I use the "tube" cello method too, it works great. Can't really see another way of doing it!

Thanks Moonpenny, they discontinued the other blanket I used to use and thought this one was lovely.

I have a question for everyone, does it have to be Huggies or Pampers in nappy cakes? The reason I ask is I tend to make mine with some size 1, some size 2 and some size 3 and always Huggies but i have seen other makes of Size 3 at better prices. What does everyone suggest?

  • I always use Huggies or Pampers, but I would prefer to own brand ones as you say they are cheaper! The only reason I use branded nappies is because I think it sounds better if potential customers ask. I personally used ASDA when my boys were babies and I preferred them

    Hi
LOL....this nappy debate goes on and on and on.... it's personal choice really, I never use sizes 1 or 2, I stick to size 3 only, I have always used Pampers not tried Huggies but if they were the right price I would, I pay around 8p per nappy but with prices going up the chances of getting nappys at that price is highly unlikely, have to wait for the offers to appear again I'm afraid. :( Janey

Yes, I only use Pampers and Huggies mainly because people assume they are the best nappies as they are the leading brands and new Mums tend to use them to start off with. I personally don't like Huggies and have had nothing but problems with the bigger ones (size 4) on my eldest and we use Morrisons own brand as found them to be the most reliable but I wouldn't put them in a cake as I don't think they would sell as well.

Different nappies suit different children though and the amount of nappies that are in a cake anyway would only last a few days! My youngest (nearly 5 months) is in reusables, but we do cheat and use disposables at night (Morrisons again!)

I am like Janey and try to pay around 8p/9p per nappy so look out for the deals.

Forgot to say, I always use size 3s, mainly because if the recipient has a big baby, then they may not even use size 1s and may not be in size 2s for very long. My little girl was only 7lbs 11 at birth but was in size 3s at 2 months old. Many people like to keep the nappy cakes on display for a while before taking them apart too. For that reason, I always use size 3-6 months clothing too.

Thanks for the help. I might move to size 2 and 3, but had good feedback having the different sizes.
