Irlip - that cake really is gorgeous!

I just popped on to say all nappies are 1/3 off in Sainsburys from today also not sure if anyone is a member of Costco? If you buy 2 mega boxes of huggies (210 nappies per box -size 3!!!) you get £14 off. I think they are about £22 a box usually so you will get 420 for £34 making them about 8p each
    hope this helps someone x
  • Hi all, I have been doing a few nappycakes for family and friends for me to give as gifts but i have had my first paid order this week and the lady was so pleased she suggested i go into our local baby shop and ask them if they would like any or at least take a buisness card or leaflet (not got any done yet though)
I have skim read that some of you do have stock in shops but how do you go about it? I would feel so cheeky asking and would feel a fool if they said they weren't good enough. What do i say to them? How do i start the conversation? I am quite timmid and not very good talking to people.
Also with them being a baby shop my fear is that they will say no, then start doing them themselves.
    This is my signature!

Firstly sounds like your cakes are lovely - if people are happy with them thats what you want!
I was lucky and a local baby shop advertised locally asking for handmade gifts (made by mums in the area) so i contacted her by telephone to say what i make and luckily for me she was really interested she had never heard of the nappy cakes? I directed her to my website and she e-mailed me asking for quite a lot of stock on sale or return at wholesale prices. So I have had to search high and low for the bargains to enable me to make a little profit and also a low enough wholesale price so that she can also make a good profit. I have also been too timid to go into the local shops and ask :o but I think when they are stocked in the baby shop I will pluck up the courage and just take a cake in with a portfolio of work - be prepared with a wholesale price or a figure in your head such as 10%? cut for the shop owner. Also your comment regarding them doing them themselves well thats the risk you take I suppose but think about it logically would they really have the time with running a shop too! I barely have the time to source goods, make them up, photograph them, wrap themetc and at the moment I am at home on mat leave I only have my 5mth old baby with me and he is pretty good too!
    Good luck whatever you decide!
Do you have any pics you could post of your recent cakes - would love to see them :)
Proud mummy to 3 beautiful boys! :D
  • Hello,
    Yet more fantastic cakes!
Elastigirl-when I went around the shops they all really liked them but wanted at least 25% for their own profit which would leave me in negative so did not bother!x

I have just left my first cakes with my local florist. I have told her how much I want for them and it is up to her to add her bit on top. She seemed quite happy with this but wants me to buy wholesale so I can bring my prices down so we both get a decent profit. She felt I was not making enough profit on my cakes but most of my cales are in the £25 - £40 range.

Irlrip - the booties were joined with long plastic bit that label comes on. I fixed a bit of curling ribbon to that and took it up and over top tier and stuck it onto florist ribbon other side of top tier. Bib hides it Does that make sense?

Brudie25 - Thanks for tip about Sainsbury's Nappies.
