wrong address

Options
two years ago my abbey credit card stopped sending me statements and requests for payments. this went on for a year untill i did a credit score check and it showed that abbey had applied a 'gone away' on my address and credit score. I contacted them and they had fined me for over a year with fines and no payments. They had admitted that the mistake was theirs because they had missed a line out off my address when they transfered to santander and thats why i wasnt receiving the statements and that the royal mail had kept sending them back as there was no such address. when i said that wasnt my fault there reply was it was down to me to make my payments and not up to them to send me statments and requests for payments. now i have a large credit card bill and poor credit score, are they able to do this or is it there fault, can i reverse the decision?

I think I would have tried to get in touch with them, knowing that I owed them money, personally?!

    Hi ,

I used to work in debt recovery, am I'm afraid ur at fault here. U are liable to always to carry on making payments and to give up to date addresses when you move.

    Sorry

I totally agree with the others. In your credit agreement, you agree to pay at least the minimum payment monthly and get fined for missed/late payments. Just because they stopped sending you statements doesnt mean that you didnt have to make the minimum payment at least. I think if you told them after a couple of months you may have been lucky and they may have been more helpful for you, but after a year, i think they have every right to claim that it was your responsibility to make sure payments were being made.

As with the above, the onus is on you to carry on paying it whether a statement comes or not. Sorry.
