Kodak Easyshare consumables

Our local community nursery has bought a Kodak Easyshare CX7300 camera with printer dock and printer printing 6x4" prints. They didn't really consider the cost of running this camera and the Kodak consumables are really expensive (working out to about 50p per print).

Do you have to use Kodak consumables or are there any alternatives you can use? Seems like they buy ink and paper in a single kit. Does one have to do this or can you buy low cost paper and a separate compatible ink cartridge?

Do all printers like this (printing 6x4" prints) use similar paper or do you need to use particular paper for this printer?

Thanks

  • Hi, can't answer the question but Dixons have a 3 for 2 offer on these at the moment so that will get the price down a bit.

As far as I know you don't have to use particular brand names - but -

I think that even using "compatible inks" and "none household name" photo' printing paper the cost of doing your own printing is more than the cost of getting the prints done by the likes of Boots, other high street photo shops or the many online alternatives (although generally the price drops the more you order. The only benefit of doing it your self is being able to get them there and then, but even this makes it only worthwhile if you are printing off just a few.

Morrisons has kodak 6x4 photo paper BOGOF at the moment if this helps try calling somewhere like http://www.choicestationery.com/ they might be able to help or advise on the ink side of things or can you get the ink catridges refilled at your local cartridge refill shop (sorry can't remember what any of these are called offhand)
    hope this helps

The other alternative is to buy a memory card, (I would imagine that a memory card can be used with this camera) take the memory card to boots etc and get them to print the pics for you probably about 10p each and just use the printer dock & printer for urgent one off photos
