faulty washing machine

i purchased a washing machine from little woods, £200 off for £370. It was delivered 5 weeks ago on the 20th April
There is a problem with the spin cycle.
I contacted littlewoods 2 days ago who told me to contact the manufacturer. I replied and told them my contract is with littlewoods and not the manufacturer. I e-mailed again this morning stating i would like to reject the washing machine and have a replacement. I have just had an e-mail from them telling me that as i hadnt complained within 28 days then there is nothing they can do and i have to get hold of the manufacturer (hotpoint) for a repair.
Now i know this cannot be right
Where do i go from here
Thank you
Tracey

You are totally right. They are wrong.0

well, thanks
to be honest i couldn't be bothered to argue to littlewoods
i have contacted hotpoint who is sending out a repair man next week. I asked if i could reject the machine and she said no as it is over 28 days, even though it is only just over, she wouldn't budge
it is up to the repair man if i get a replacement or not0 -
You should ask for the advisor's details and let them know you'll be passing on their remarks to Trading Standards.0

Hi,
hotpoint will only be authorising an exchange if its not repairable, see what the repair man says is the problem. If its fixable then you will need to go back to the catalogue company if you are rejecting the machine. Whats the problem with the spin cycle?0 -
hi,
i told the catalogue company i wanted to reject it, they said i was over 28 days (by 4 days)
the hotpoint woman reckons that my spin could be correct, on the 1600 or 1200 speed, it is as loud as standing next to someone digging up the road, or a jet engine...lol, we have had a complaint from 2 doors down, we have to literally stand in the garden with the door shut to get away from the noise....surely this cant be right, and i certainly cant live this way for the next, say 5 years0 -
nightmare! hard to tell whats going on with it but it shouldnt be that loud. do the usual checks i.e. make sure its level and all transit bolts are removed. The repair guy should sort it, but unfortunately hes only allowed to authorise exchange if its faulty and not repairable. You will have to fight it out with Littlewoods if you dont want the repair.0

thanks
no, i didnt want a repair, who does on something so new
but i suppose its too late now, littlewoods doesn't know i have rung hotpoint though0 -
I often go to calls where the customer thinks the new machine is noisy and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it but it is a different sound to the old machine.
I'm not saying there is no fault with your machine but a new Hotpoint would certainly not make a 'jet engine' noise (if I had £1 for every time I've heard that).
It will probably be a brush-motor machine and the brushes will make a high-pitched rasp, and if your last machine had an induction (brushless) motor, then the new one will sound different and high pitched.
An engineers visit will confirm whether the sound is normal or not.0 -
oh dear - you bought a hotpoint is all I can say. I used to sell white goods a good while back (and extended warranties but I have seen the error of my ways!).
You could nip to Maplins and purchase a sound meter and measure the noise at 1m during the spin - the handbook should state noise levels at whatever distance during whatever spin cycle. Just a thought if the engineer were to fail to find a fault - you'd know eitherway then.
My one and only Hotpoint washer was noisy - I had an engineer out to it after a couple of weeks but he blamed it on water slap. I miserably grew used to it, replaced the motor bushes myself when they failed but retired it to the garage where it has sat unloved for 5y.
Their frost free freezers aren't much cop either (IMHO), it started to thaw randomly.
Their fridges aren't much cop either either (IMHO) - door seal went.0
