paypal taking me to court???

i recently posted an add on gumtree (so i didnt have to pay ebay commison) to sell my phone. i had numerous emails from people interested in buying but few offered what i was expecting. i then had a decent offer from somebody and it all sounded good. i then asked where i would be sending it. it turned out it was in lagos(former capitall of nigeria) straight away i told the person i didnt want to go forward with the deal. i then recieve an email from the person saying he sent the payment but i would only get it if i sent order tracking number, i did not trust this one bit. i then recieved an email from service@paypal.com saying the same thing. the amount of money was shown ect. i told the person to cancel the order. i know it is proberly one of those forged emails but it had the paypal email at the top i click reply to the email but then the paypal email changes and comes up with a completely different one.
i decided that i would just ignore it. throughout a few weeks i have been recieving more emails from paypal(same thing happened when i tried to reply)
i have tried contacting paypal but finding the right email adress to send these queries too is so confusing to find on the website. i then decided to cancel my paypal account just to see what will happen but i am still getting emails from paypal. i logged on this morining and read this email "Collaboration Complaint From PayPal To FBI ** LEGAL ACTION **" which obviously i was a bit shocked at. i pressed reply and got this email shipmentlink@emailaccount.com

i am a bit worried about this i dont know whether to believe it or not.
if anyone could help me with a little advice it would me great!

A little confused about wether you actually followed a link from one of these emails.

Forward the emails to spoof@paypal.com It sounds to me like because you tried to reply the scammers realise the email address is live so are trying there luck. The email address you quote at the bottom sounds like a scam

You can always phone paypal to check

paypal are not emailing you the scammer is. dont try to reply to the emails, if paypal email you there will be a notification on your paypal account, log out of your email, dont follow any links from your email. Type the paypal address www.paypal.com into your adrress bar and log into your account, if there is no alert in your account paypal did not send the email.

Go back to your email account, click on the scam email and forward it to spoof@paypal.com and they will deal with it.

Never send goods in these circumstances, it is one of the oldest nigerian cons going.

Go to https://www.paypal.com and login from there.

Check for messages in the resolution centre, and check your transaction history to see if there has been any suspicious activity - purchases or money receipts. If your account has been hijacked, then they could have done untold damage to it.

Look towards the bottom of the screen for a Contact Us link - that page will give you the details of how to call them up and discuss the problem directly with them.

    scam attempt

easy to deal with ... send a note saying you have closed the account with paypal and you would need to refund through western union.

Then give them a false western union number ...... so the lying scum make a trip to claim the non existant money...

when they complain that they can't get the money give them the same code but with one digit different and get them on their peddle bike again...

Check with www.419eater.com it is hilarious ....

Don't get even... go one better !! :rotfl:

You need to do the rest of it as well as per the suggestions above. Paypal will automatically tell you the emails are spoofs, even when they aren't.

However you need now to check that you haven't been hijacked, it does look as though you might have followed a link in an email at least once if I am reading your original post correctly.
