Depends where you're going on holiday, I guess
. I travel to the USA regularly and have never really felt the need for one...have heard the things though (uni gives them away and friend got one) and my god they're painful to your ears. If you're worried about getting attacked, the best thing to shout is not "help" but "fire" as it tends to be more likely to get people's attention...that and maybe enroll in some self defence classes
.
Failing that, have a mini bottle of body spray handy and spray that in the eyes of the person that's trying to attack you.0 -
I saw some in marks & spencer the other day. They had pretty designs on the front making them a bit more discreet.

You could take me on holiday with you and I would protect ya!!
Im sure most people carry these to make themselves feel better but i think they are a waste of money as during your average attack no one would be able to fumble through their bag to find the thing, when I was young and threw people about we tested people's abilities to cope under stress and even in a controlled environment, ie a dojo, not one person was able to get the keys/alarm out of their bag, my top tip would be to carry a brick in your bag and anytime it kicks off just start swinging.Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -

Depending on where you are going i would look to other things - if you are particularly paranoid.
For instance, many countries allow the sale of CS Gas, that would be far better than a personal alarm and can easily be bought upon arrival for a few pounds.
In countries such as the US you can even buy cattle prods et al.0 -
HA HA HA CS gas oooh dear that takes me back, unless you are standing approx 3 cm's away from the person you are trying to gas or have a gas mask on yourself or you are inside or there is no wind do not use the stuff the average person who uses the stuff gets a face full of the stuff themselves, and again deploying the stuff under stress will be near on impossible.
Cattle prods are cool thoughLive each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -

Or a gun
In fact while were at it, what about a samuria sword, ninja stars - even a pair of nun shucks.0 -
Or rely on the destructive ability of a badgerLive each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0
