Hi All,
I have seen the sticky for basic bank accounts but the recommendations seem quite old. Best BASIC bank account??? Help.
I'm currently paying debts back with the CCCS and was recommended to take out an account with Co-operative (not sure of type of account i've got) which i have but last month i went overdrawn for the 1st time by £70 as bank holiday meant money going in didn't clear in time and they swallowed my card, cancelled DD's but i got then back once in credit again but now i think i may have gone slightly overdrawn again due to electricity bill coming out late as i cant log into my online banking which happened last time. So i'm think of switching to an absolute basic account and paying the majority of my bills myself rather than DD.
I am goign to CO-OP bank on Sat (1st day off to speak with them) But any advice welcome!

Barclays Cash Card Account is the best. It come with a VISA debit card instead of Electron. http://www.personal.barclays.co.uk/BRC1/jsp/brccontrol?site=pfs&task=homefreegroup&value=12866
Other basic bank accounts are good, especially Natwest (Step Account)/RBS (Key Account).0 -

I have a Barclays basic with a cash card as i was not given the option of a debit card. The only problem is i cannot use this account for direct debits,so i cant rent a house or pay any bills or get insurance.
Does anyone know why on this account you can not set up DDs0 -

Ask them if they can change this.
If not, get an account somewhere else if your bank doesn't offer you the range of facilities that you feel you need.0
