TV Aspect all wrong

For some unknown reason our TV picture is all wrong.Subtitles are chopped off the bottom and the clock in the top right of the screen when watching the footy is missing.Tried changing the Scart and altering the picture options on the remote all to no avail.I've even took the Ariel out of the PVR and plugged it straight in to the telly. can someone please advise.

Do you get your telly through Sky or Cable? If you do, there may well be a setting within your Sky.Cable box that allows you to change the output to 16:9.
It sounds to me like you have a widescreen telly, but your Sky/Cable box isn't set to the same. I had the same problem when I first bought a widescreen telly...0
