Quick Question about Amazon Warranty

Options
I want to buy an ipod touch. the best new price I have seen is £152 off Amazon. Does this seem like a good price?

More to the point....

Do i get a warranty if i buy it from them? I'm considering paying the extra and getting from the Apple store if i dont have some protection.

Many thanks in advance

You don't need a warranty from Amazon..

Your purchase is covered for 2 years under EU law and for 6 years under Uk law.

Yes, you get a full 1 year warranty from Apple. You can still purchase the 2 year extended warranty from Apple for £38 if you buy from Amazon.

There are often iPod Touches in Apple's Refurb Store, which also come with a one year warranty. There's an 8 GB Touch there at the minute for £129.

    Thanks for that scotsbob.

I bought my daughter an ipod touch from Amazon for Christmas 2007. In February 2008 it broke. Amazon were brilliant I must say. They sent out a brand new replacement within 2 days, before i'd even had the chance to send the broken one back. Now the replacement has broken I assumed that was it, and it was going to cost £66 to be replaced from Apple (I don't think they do repairs - I think they replace them with returned or reconditioned ipods). I think i't's worth having a look to see how I get on with Amazon again.

    Dear Customer

Thank you for contacting us at Amazon.co.uk.

We're sorry to hear of the issues you have experienced with the "New Apple iPod touch 8GB" you purchased from us.

All electronics item purchased from Amazon.co.uk come with a 1 year warranty from the manufacturer. However, on checking your original order #026-5077338-1225929, I found that it was placed on December 19, 2007 and warranty period has expired.

I am sorry to inform you that we are unable to take further action against this item.

Also, please be informed that we currently do not offer an extended warranty on the electronics items sold by the retail stores, unless otherwise stated.

We encourage you to consult the manual that came with the package for warranty and service information.

In the majority of cases, we have found that many functionality issues can be resolved by closely following the instruction methods described in the manual or by contacting the manufacturer to ascertain if this is a known issue.

In general, we have found that common faults have been recognised by the manufacturer, and that they have developed quick and easy solutions.

You may contact "APPLE" by using the following:

    Website address: http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/

    Phone Number: 0870 876 0753

I would like to appreciate your understanding in this case and hope this information is helpful.

Thank you for shopping at Amazon.co.uk.

Please let us know if this e-mail answered your question:

Hmm...I think i'm going to have to try again.

I have found Amazon to be good too. I bought a Pure DAB radio a couple of years ago and whilst extending the aerial after a month or so of having it, it just snapped off! I contacted Amazon thinking they'd tell me to go away (how do they know it wasn't snapped off with misuse?). However they paid for me to send the radio back to them and replaced it (I upgraded to a better model too!). There was no hassle at all.

So with Amazon and your Apple warranty you should be well covered.

Possibly a letter along these lines may be called for.

Dear Amazon, thank you for your reply. There may be some confusion here as I was not claiming under the manufacturers warranty but under the 1971 Sale Of Goods Act. Bearing this in mind may I invite you to reconsider my claim as I do intend to fully pursue my statutory rights.

Maybe improve my punctuation and make it a bit more flowery but you get the gist of it, once you tart it up it should be ok.

Of course you need to be prepared to go to the Small Claims Court but that isn't a big deal

    Good luck mate

Possibly worth reading the Sale of Goods Fact Sheet?

The best summary? "It depends..." :(
