Tarvel insurance problems...

I'm trying to get a "top up" for my travel insurance...am spending the summer in the USA, and have a work visa and insurance from 12th June to 15th September, but I'm now flying out on 3rd June. Have contacted a few companies and they say that they can't insure me as my journey has to start and end in the UK, so I would have to pay for the full duration (3rd June to 15th September), which I wont do as I have already forked out a lot of money for insurance. Seem to remember that I can't change the insurance I have with BUNAC, as it's linked to my work visa (though they have said I can fly out earlier under the visa waiver programme).

So yeah, anyone know of any insurance that would cover me? I also suffer from hypothyroidism (mentioned this on a prev. thread about travel insurance), but it's really not an issue...still apparently has to be declared, though, even though I've said I;m happy to be exempt from any complications arising from the illness (purely because there aren't any).

Any help would be much appreciated as I fly out on the 3rd June

the advice you have is correct, in fact your current policy will be invalid as it will be subject to you having cover with them from the day you leave until the day you return.

Yiour best bet is to ring your current insurer up and ask what they can offer to help u

thanks for that...wish BUNAC had told me this as I told them I'd be leaving earlier and they said it wouldn't be a problem...guess I should have known not to trust them!

If you look at the policy it will have their definition of a trip which will be roughly "When you leave the UK until when you return". If you do not conform to this then the policy is invalid.

It's okay - got it sorted! Turns out BUNAC *can* change the dates, which is confusing because when you fill out visa application and insurance forms says you can't as it affects visa...maybe I just read it wrong :S

Anyhow, that's a weight off my mind...I can now get back to studying for my Uni exam tomorrow :O

    Thats good news

It sounds like the person you spoke to originally did not really know what they are doing which could have caused you problems.

    Glad its sorted now
