Do phone sets purchased in Britain work abroad? advise pleae !

Hello all,

I wonder if phone sets in Britain will work abroad. There are some good deals around and I want to send one for my parents in Pakistan. Somebody told me it will work but with a swipe of the wire within the RJ connector. Can somebody please confirm it what does it mean?

The only way is to try - basic telephony is no problem, but things like the ringing current, line impedance, caller display etc etc are all issues that can conspire against you having a handset the works as well as a locally sourced one. There's more to it than changing the phone plug and hoping for the best.

Also, some telcos require their connected phones to be 'approved' with a suitible approvals bosy applicable to their location, so this may be another consideration.
