Has anyone heard of this?

My parents run a small takeaway food business and received an official looking mailshot followed by a telephone call a few days later telling them they needed this new licence.
They do not play background music in the shop. However, they do have a small television set which has just the terrestial TV channels available.
Is this just a con?!

I do not know about this specific area, but the PRS is legit. I would say they need to carefully read what they've been sent. Writing to the PRS to confirm that they do not play background music in the takeaway might resolve the matter if they don't think they need this licence.
Clearly they need a TV licence for the TV, but that's separate.Signature removed for peace of mind0
