Hi there this is my first post so please be nice!My 16yr old is about to leave home to go to Raleigh to start his Navy training.Whilst we have read all the infomation given, iwonder if anyone has any inside tips/advice.He is very excited,i however am very proud but slightly anxious! thanks

Don't worry about Raleigh. I worked there from 1993-1999
As long as he is reasonably fit and can take the instructors swearing at him he will be fine.
Remember, it's nothing personal. They try to break you.

The time for him will go so quickly as its up at 5am each day and usually working through until 10pm so no rest for the wicked either.

Being only 16, he will get kept an eye on due to new recruits being able to be up to 30yrs old.
He will also be kept well away from the drinks if he gets a shore run (week 5 iirc).

Lastly, tell him to work hard because of he is going to be a Stoker, he will be off to train professionally in Gosport to HMS Sultan.
Great place and tell him to ENJOY IT!

Tell him if he drops the soap.... leave it

buy some more later, it aint worth the risk, especially with Stokers about.

hi, thanks for asking girl power. He's home at present on summer holiday! They have 4 weeks off.Had this not been enforced leave he would have finished phase 1.But hes loving it -looking forward to going back and actually seems to miss some of it.He's coped really well no problems -passed everything, and made friends.Ithought he would of changed but he's still the same lying in bed till all hours and out with his friends! but there again hes only 17 and one of his friends is about to start phase 2 in the army so ther just enjoying there freedom whilst it lasts.
