Xbox 360 internal clock problems

Anyone know how to solve the problem whereby every time I turn my Xbox 360 on it reverts back to the default date/time of 22/11/2005.
This doesnt bother, but it does mess up all my saves especially when loading "last save" games such as Halo 3...

  • Someone correct me if I am wrong.

I think this is down to XBOX LIVE.

If you are connected, the date stays current, but if you are not, it reverts back to the default date.

I do not have XBOX LIVE and all 3 of our XBOX 360's revert back to the default date each time they are switched on.

    Hope this helps.

Nope, thats sounds a bit wrong...

Has your 360 always done this?

Likely the battery inside is kaput i reckon, hence the boards forgetting the time each time powered down, just like a pc.

Just done a google search, some say it's because of xbox live others say it's because you switch your console off at the wall socket.

All 3 in my house get switched off at the wall and none have xbox live and every time they are turned back on the date is the default date.

Edit to add: found this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/817028?sd=xbox

This link says you can only leave your console without power for 2 hours then the clock resets.

I have a similar problem and the answers here make sense.

I am working my way through Grand Theft Auto IV. Every time I go to save my progress, my time is always in the early hours of 22 October 2005.

I have the telly, sky box and XBox 360 all connected on a 4 way adapter, and turn this off at the wall overnight.

Okay from my experiments and investigations it appears the internal clock works fine, but once connecting to XBox Live, it wants to read the online clock every time (i.e. it wants you to be connected to the internet to read the clock), and if it can't, it reverts back to the original clock date.

There isnt a way to go back to a normal clock once you have activated your account online, it seems to be an option you cant adjust.

Taking advice, I have connected the Xbox power supply directly into a wall socket, which seems to give the Xbox more juice in standby mode, meaning it retains its time rather than going through a power-rack. Not sure why, but so far no loss of time/clock.

I got an official reply from Microsoft about resolving the problem, and they have cleverly suggested I set the clock each and every time I switch it on! Cheeky sods, next they'll be telling me they want me to write down my own save locations rather than storing them on the hard drive.

If this doesnt succeed, the next (and hopefully final stage) would be to have the Xbox permanently connected to my internet router either by wire (cheap) or wireless (bloody expensive)...

    Hope it helps others out...

"The Definition of a 'Clock Loop'
A 'Clock Loop' is when your Xbox loses time. Since the Xbox does not have a CMOS battery after a certain amount of time of not being plugged the clock is rest. This can happen anytime after 45 minutes. (15 hours for me) When your Xbox loses time, it's going to want to go to MS Dash to set the time. You can't get to MS Dash, because your modified something on your Xbox if you played with the font files and are trying to boot "PBL" with the Dash of your choice. By default your Xbox wants to go to MS Dash, but the modified fonts etc.. are saying "No, no, launch PBL". The Xbox gets pulled it two different directions at once. Then it gets all confused and reboots."

i just pulled that off the net for you

i knew the xbox didnt have a cmos battery, yet another oversight, you need continuous power through the console to maintain the time(you can turn the xbox off but not at the socket as the power still trickles through in minute amounts to act as the cmos battery does and maintain the time
    Back by no demand whatsoever.
