Does your PC running Windows XP Home require you to click on your user name to start?
If so, but you don't need this for security reasons or whatever, then you might find this tip useful.
I found it late last night on another forum but alas, I don't remember which one as I tried a few before finding this solution (might have been https://www.annoyances.org which is good for techie stuff.
To bypass the annoying 'click on username' message and just have your PC start up directly, boot up as normal and then, when your desktop has appeared in full, click on:
Start (or hit the Windows button), then Run and type
'control userpasswords2' (without the quote marks).
Click on 'Owner' and then uncheck the box that says 'Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer'.
For me a window with username and password boxes appeared next. I hadn't set any passwords etc so I just left them blank and hit enter.
It worked and I don't have this stupid 'yes, I do really want to log on' delay every time I turn the computer on.
I can't take credit for finding this out but I thought some of you with new Dell laptops etc might benefit from this little timesaver.
