People who ask questions but don't want answers

Being a helpful sort of person I've always been happy to give helpful answers where I can on various forums and on the Tech board here. However it drives me mad that people who ask questions can't be bothered to check answers. If you don't want to know don't ask. This behaviour puts me off helping in case I'm wasting my time. On other forums I have stopped replying. I hope I don't go down the same route on the Tech board - though at least the problem isn't too bad yet.

What makes you say people aren't checking answers ,are they repeating themselves or something ..........not sure what you mean :)
  • I guess there might be the chance that people check answers but if they can't be bothered to even acknowledge it and say thanks then that's just as bad as not checking.

    True :)
  • Glad to say I've not yet noticed it. They don't always do what you suggest but what the heck.Mind you there was a recent thread complaining about people saying thank you.

  • ...I agree, there is nothing wrong with a bit of courtesy, however sometimes a member may send a private message instead (this has happened to me a few times when I've answered someone). Also, as stated earlier, there was a very long thread some weeks ago which started with someone complaining about people who said "thank you" (which I didn't agree with!).

Definitely a case of "screwed if you do" and "screwed if you don't"  :) :)

I've noticed a reduction in the 'thanks for that' posts since a few users complained. i don't agree and think an acknowledgement is polite and costs nothing.

I've also had more people pm their thanks since the complaints, sometimes a few weeks after I posted an answer. I know this sounds crazy but some people do not come on here EVERY DAY ::)

  • Sometimes if you are posting on lots of topics, the notification system doesn't always work. Then you forget where you have posted. It's happened to me, I'm not being rude, but, as I post on here a lot, sometimes it's hard to keep up with absolutely everything. :-/

i always try to thank people and let them know how i've got on with a suggestion they've made, it's just polite to do so in my book, it may not always be the correct suggestion or even work, but what the hell, if someone has taken the time to respond to you the least ya can do it thank them.

Whether people thank you or not, is down to their ignorance, dont let the tiny minority put you off all the good your doing for others that do appreciate your help.  ;) ;D ;D
