Your figures show about £150pm excess income.

If you're going bankrupt, there's no point paying your creditors.

The Official receiver fee is about to go up to £325 (1 April). So that's two and a bit months and the first one of you goes bankrupt. Two and a bit months after that the second one goes. It's going to take a few weeks to get the forms completed and the appointment booked anyway.

I'm assuming that you would get exemption from the £150 court fee on the grounds of CTC/WTC and income less that 15050. Even if you're above that you can try for remission.

Are there no sources of help for you - Trade union? Forces charities? Local charities (surely the CAB could have pointed you in the right direction if that was their advice).
EDF have been known to pay for bankruptcy fees for their customers (link) - British gas have the same scheme.

    Hi Vippy

I think that if you want more specific advice, you need to show a bit more detail about your expenditure. At the moment, you have only given your total expenditure, which is less than your income. If you post a more detailed budget (things like food bill, mobile phones, insurance etc etc), we might be able to spot areas where you could cut down and free up a bit more cash to throw at your debts to keep your head above water. It wouldn't be a bad thing to do the budget anyway if you are struggling - it might help to make everything clearer in your own mind.

    Vippy,
I would really urge you to contact payplan or cccs, both are very good. It sounds like the advice you have got from cab has not been great, or not been explained fully to you. Getting the opinion of another organisation can only help you to find the right thing to do.

I wish you the best of luck through this difficult time. It seems impossible now but you will get through it. Keep posting for financial and emotional support, you are very welcome :)

    Hi vippy,

and <<<big hugs>>> because you sound like you need them.

Above this post is a banner showing links to Payplan and CCCS.

Go and have a cup of tea/coffee and a biscuit.

Now pick up the phone and ring one of them straightaway!

The longer you leave it, the worse you will feel, and believe me, the waiting and the uncertainty are always worse than knowing the facts of the situation.

    Good luck.

Serena (PS, please read this post in a very kind and supportive tone of voice!)
