Whats going on with my internet.Plugd n NEW Netbook on router & am connected No pass nothing.The router is my ISP's run of the mill as far as I can see.I havnt set this router up or anything.
Should I not have to log in, like i do on my wired modem? ?

    need a bit more info bud like how are you connecting the netbook to the router ie wired or wireless?

    which router type? which operating system?

    the router should dial out and keep connected until you either disconnect or switch the router off.

    and the login details should be entered into the router only, so there isnt a need to keep signing in like the old wired modem

    I'm using the Ubuntu Netbook remix, and even though the router has wireless capability,which i havnt set up. Ive got it on the wired option!

    the router deals with signing into the ISP's service (like you did manually using the old modem) automatically. it will stay signed into the service for as long as you keep the router switched on.

    the wired lan (ethernet) doesnt need any form of security (for home users anyway) like the wireless option, so as you have found out, you can just plug in the ethernet cable and away you go.

    I had the router turned off for a few days. I did briefly try to install the ISP's sofware to setup the router but it wouldnt work,so I decided to try without .Does the router store the password.I wud have thought i'd have to log in each time!
