Renting a house BEFORE bankruptcy

Thanks for your replies. I'm just really puzzled now as to why the agent wouldn't even let us try - she said don't even bother paying the appl fee. Should I not have been so upfront telling her my OH would fail due a default and some CC arrears?0

It is only agency's that will do credit checks so look in your local paper for any private landlords advertising. You could always just have the rental agreement in your name and not bother with your husband on the agreement.
Hi charliedavis,
I totally agree with gettingoutofdebt, we had the same problem a couple of years ago wen we lost our home. We had 2 guinea pigs, a dog a cat, a budgie and aquarium so was impossible to go thru an agency. You need to look at private landlords. we found a few who accepted pets as long as we paid for any damage.
we are still with a private landlord and i have never seen him once (2 years on). As long as you prove a good tennant and pay on time (we gave him some references from family friends to say we were decent), I am sure you will find somewhere. Good luck with it all :beer:Discharged May 20100 -
hi all, I havent been here for a while but just a little info to bear in mind...or maybe I am just being extremely unlucky...
I am having real problems renting somewhere new at all (discharged last August) as even private landlords now seem to be doing credit checks.
The past 3 who I have approached on gumtree are insisting on doing Paragon checks so be aware, it may be getting tougher out there
I have not had full time employment since my BR date, thre's nothing in my local very rural area so Ive been applying across 5 counties, finally found enough work to start to be stable again and now can't find anywhere to live so think I'm going to lose the opportunity to work
best wishes and good luck to everyone else home searching

sorry CD to have added a negative but I guess we will just have to work harder at the searching and stay in faith that there is somewhere great just waiting for us to find it :j I am sure that is true

ps I'm relatively new to the renting lark as I know some of you are too so this may be a useful bit of info....but I'm not sure
I spoke to CAB this morning who told me about an organisation called Housing Options. Apparently they have resources to help in some areas - housing associations etc. For the London area it's 0208 313 4098 as an initial contact.
I also spoke to the council housing officer in the area I want to move to. They are able to help vulnerable people in some cases who are desparaely in need of accommodation. I guess this includes people with children. Hopefully someone who knows more than me about these things will post some better info on this.0
