Boiler replace and resite London

We want to both replace and resite our combi boiler. The new boiler will be installed in a first floor landing cupboard directly above the site of the current boiler (which is being removed, obviously!) so the new pipework is minimal. The existing heating and DHW pipes both go from the current site straight up to this cupboard.
The job includes
The installer is Corgi / GSR registered.
Is this reasonable for London?
Thanks
Betty
The job includes
- Ecotec plus 831
- new hole for flue
- new hole for condensate pipe (the new boiler site is about 2.5 m from the hopper where the bath drains)
- upgrade 15mm gas pipe to 22mm
- add and cap a new spur to gas pipe for a future cooker to be sited about 1.5 m from existing boiler outlet in the same room
- run gas supply from existing site to new boiler 2.5m directly above
connect heating and DHW to new boiler - both run through new boiler cupboard - add supply to new towel rad mounted on reverse of boiler cupboard wall
- connect pipes for new bath taps and shower to new boiler. The pipes already run into new boiler cupboard
- fit magnaclean and powerflush
- earth bonding for boiler and bathroom pipes
The installer is Corgi / GSR registered.

Thanks
Betty

Good evening: Good specification (the OH also installs Vaillant/Viessmann in London so price sounds in the ballpark). If you can find someone who isn't VAT registered you could make savings...always get 3 quotes from RGIs recommended to you by a source you trust and compare like for like.

Many thanks Canucklehead
We actaully have a quote from a no VAT guy as well (above board as far as I can tell, his Corgi number checks out and he's happy to give a written estimate) - he quoted £1300-1500 for the same job minus the TRV and thermostat. We would supply the boiler, flue and magnaclean ourselves - I assume he prefers not to supply so his turnover stays below the VAT limit.
Altogether it works out about £2700, which is roughly the same as the other quote minus VAT.
We asked our neighbours if they could recommend a local fitter and they said they always use British Gas :eek:0 -

Hi...the problem with a fit only is the onus is on you, the purchaser, to deal with any issues related to the boiler rather than the RGI. The OH always supplies and fits and is the first port of call if a client has a problem....of course many RGIs don't work the same way he does;)....a few threads on here about the relative merits.

We only do supply and fit boiler as well, and before one of the other 'jokers' comes on and says its so we can mark up the price of the boiler, we charge the customer the same price as we buy the boiler for from our suppliers. It would be a lot easier to just tell the customer to go and get the boiler themselves as then we wouldnt have to be VAT registered, but some of us (including Canuckleheads OH) succeed in giving our customers the best service possible.0

Your task list looks familiar to the work we had done in Dec 2006. Our old boiler was a back boiler and our new Valliant was sited in the loft.
All products supplied by a local heating company £2900
We wanted wireless programmer and room stat, but was guided against it as in their experience the technology was unstable - especially where a heavily used Wireless Internet network was used (that's us!!). No great shakes on this, so we opted for the non-wireless versions.
Very pleased with the outcome. Location is Leigh-on-Sea (Essex)0 -
Just spoke to my friend... he said its reasonable, especially for london. PS he is a corgi registered Gas engineer
Couple of additional tasks there rather than a straight boiler replacement!Plan
1) Get most competitive Lifetime Mortgage (Done)
2) Make healthy savings, spend wisely (Doing)
3) Ensure healthy pension fund - (Doing)
4) Ensure house is nice, suitable, safe, and located - (Done)
5) Keep everyone happy, healthy and entertained (Done, Doing, Going to do)0 -
your going to pay this gas engineer 1300 NET for two days work MAX? with no potential come back????
thats £650 per day! and you have all the hassle of ordering the equipment?
OK ... lolPlan

Not necessarily - I haven't decided who to use yet.
In fact the net labour costs on both quotes work out about the same, with the fit-only guy a little cheaper. The decision comes down to whether avoiding the hassle and risk of ordering the boiler myself is worth £600+, which after all is almost 50% again of that £1300!
FWIW I have used the second guy for a small job and had good service. The first one is new to me.
Thanks for checking the price out with your friend0 -

Hi jstallan, thanks for your comments - good to know what the range for the job is. My gut feel is the quote is a little on the expensive side but not excessively so for London, and the impression I got from the guy who quoted was very professional so a high quote not unexpected.
I agree about the wireless thermostat BTW, we had one in our last place and it never worked. We'll ask for a wired one.
