Debt collection agencies

I have two questions:

1) Has anyone had success in claiming bank/credit card charges after the debt has been passed over to a debt collection agency? (And paid off)

2) Since the debts I had with the DCA have been paid off would anything i did claim for be paid directly to me?

I claimed successfully after a credit card had gone to a debt collection agency. But as there was an outstanding balance it went straight to them to pay it off.
