I was with scottish power, who I think work well, but switched to npower to save myself £100ish. But I dont like thier online service, so I'm thinking of switching to Eon. With scottish power, you can put in your meter readings when ever you want and it will tell you how much power you've used, since last time or for the last year, its really easy to keep track of. With Npower I've put in my meter reading but wont get another bill for 3 months, and cant see anywhere to see how much I've used.
So I'd like to know how Eon, the next cheapest compare. Can you see your monthly usage if you do a meter reading every month?
Hope that makes sense
Mary

I'm sure you know this but just in case you don't; if you are with npower online you will lose the £105 yearly discount that's paid annually in arrears if you switch within the first year. This figure will have been already included in the figure you may have seen on the switching site.

Eon's website isn't as good as Scottish Power's. You get a graph showing your energy usage comapred to last year's usage, but that's only useful when you've been with them more than a year. You don't get a table telling you your daily kWh usage like you do with Scottish Power, and when you enter meter readings you don't get an immediate bill, it just gets taken into account in your next quarterly bill.

I agree with jd87, that the graph works best if you've been with them for over a year, but as above i don't know why you'd want an imediate bill when you send reads, surely 4 bills a year is enough for anyone!:rotfl:

Apart from that though its a easy online service to use and the account history bit they have is good for monitoring old bills and payments.

dont pick your supplier purely on the online service though! when you compare look at savings and reviews.

I only just switched to npower, so I'm not going to loose much by switching before my year is up. The difference between Npower and Eon is about £7 over a year, so with the £70 cashback, its worth the trouble. They put my DD at £95 to start, when my last one was £62 and they're supposed to be cheaper, so I'd like to see how much it cost's for the 1st month so I'm not paying way too much for 3 months. I got them to change it to £65, but that's probably still more than it needs to be. Things are tight at the moment, I dont mind paying a bit more ready for winter, but £30 a month is stretching it.

    Hi hampshirebabe,

The info on the thread sounds about right, we don't currently offer real time billing (producing a bill when you enter meter readings) on the website.

But you can view your energy tracker for both gas and electricity, customers do find this handy.

As walruspaul says, the account history page is useful as you can see bills, payments and the balance all on one page.

If you do need any more info, let me know :)

I not sure how accurate your energy tracker is. With one reading entered every 3 or so months, with your usage spread across the quarter. It only gives you the most basic indication of energy usage, albeit with last years data shown too.

It would be far better if you could enter you readings yourself, with a far more detailed breakdown weekly, monthly and yearly shown. Its better than nothing, but far more of an effort is required on your part.

Another thing which bugs me about your online service is the ability to add or withdraw funds yourself, without having to ring you up. I am an adult who is capable of managing my energy account, why not treat me like one?

    Hi jimexbox,

I agree, the energy tracker does only show usage used based on the meter readings from your quarterly bills.

More detailed information may be an option for the future, this is something I will certainly put forward from your feedback.

I know customers like yourself know how things work, but some customers do get confused, especially when they pay by Monthly Direct Debit, as they see a credit and want this refunding. This credit is normally due to go towards the next bill and is not a true up date balance.

If this is then refunded, they will end up in debt at the next bill date, or after the winter bills.

But I do understand your point ;)
