Help with Abbey

Hi all, not sure if I have posted in the right place but if not I apologise.
I had a loan with Abbey and cleared same back in 2007. However I dont have any documentation whatsoever and am not even sure if I had PPI with this loan. Do you think I should maybe write to them anyhow and ask for confirmation if I did pay it. Just curious if I had it and if I had make a claim for a refund. Was successful in claiming my bank charges so onto the next level of PPI Claiming:j

Hi There yes you could write to them or just give them a ring and ask. It would probably be more successful than getting straight into sending official letter. It will not rub them up the wrong way. You have to also decide how it was miss sold. You cannot just claim it back if you took it out willingly and you were covered healthwise and workwise. Although you could say that because the PPI was front loaded then that was how it was miss sold because it was not stand alone. If you had bought a stand alone policy that would have been considerabbly cheaper.

    Good Luck

    Hi there

    Your in the right place.;)

Well done on the bank charges.

Right, if you've no documentation, you can write to them to request for a copy of the agreement, they have 12 days to supply this to you, but there is a small payment of £1 payable by postal order or cheque payment, post by recorded delivery.

If you no account number, try checking on your monthly bank statements, if you do online banking, this should show the account number next to the repayments, but other than that make sure you add as much personal details as possible, like if the address was different then, and surname etc, also add your DOB to help them track down your information easier.

There is another way to request for all your information, this is called a Subject access request (SAR) template here:
    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1475553

They have 40 days to comply, and they must or should try to send everything that is requested on the SAR, please note though there is a higher cost for this at £10 payable by postal order or cheque payment.;)

You can still try to continue to reclaim and complain on the PPI if you know you were mis sold this and taken this out, while waiting for the documents, but you will need your account number, so they know what your complaint is about. This way sometimes they send you a copy of the agreement with the response where this is then free, but not always sent out this way, good luck.;)

More info here with templates to help you.

Just had second letter from Abbey dated 18th (same as one dated 12th May) advising that they are still investigating. Have written to them today advising that as we are now at the 8 week deadline they should have resolved the complaint by now but getting jittery! Is this a good sign? PPI was front loaded. Any help appreciated.
