I wish good landlords who are interested both in the profits and adherance to legislation and able toe their tenants up to standard secure places to live under fair terms the best of luck.

Unlike StevieJ I admit envy about somethings in life, but not jealousy, and I don't think I'd ever suffer either emotion towards a Landlord, personally. I'd think at what I have instead that they might not. e.g.sometimes DH's colleagues tease abit about him being a late covert to the law, he points out he had a fulfilling international career before that and has had more experience of living in other countries than any raw recruit. Its swings and roundabouts, isn't it? I won't have a property portfolio, but I'll also not be worrying about more than one roof in a storm!

BTL pimps are immoral and I have confidence that some future government will decisively act against it.

If anything, property prices are going to keep dropping and at some point stabilise at a natural level whereby people can afford to buy a decent house

They have never ever been at a natural level where everyone who wishes to buy could.
Prices have dropped in my area but not that far and houses are selling again.

What fact is that then? BTL was a gigantic bubble, fuelled by speculative greed and easy credit. Once it's game over for a bubble it doesn't bounce, or recover. The game moves on to the next arena.

I'm not currently envious of those who thought they'd seen the bottom of the dot com boom, ostriches, antiques, classic cars, stamps, tulips, etc. I may be jealous of those who invest in lithium for example, but then who knows what the next madness will be?

really Mewbie - you must come back with some numbers with this rubbuish that you keep on spouting about BTL being gigantic bubble because you won't be finding any except for in one year (2007), but you wouldn't care about that.

you should really get your facts right before continually spouting the same old tosh.

they're good soundbites though and makes you popular. i guess that's what you're after. fair play.

Well, firstly, I've never been to a dinner party to date, so doubt I'll be at one in 2019.

On the other hand, the ownership of property and the business of renting them out and maintaining them is a business - and I know nothing of the business, so no. I'm also not jealous of insurance sales people who make a lot of money, nor double glazing sales people. All three businesses are things I couldn't do.

I am jealous of people who "know somebody" and get to do well paid jobs based on luck/who they know - without any experience/knowledge of that job before their good fortune landed them into that role. Seen a lot, a LOT, of this happening over the years. That's what I get jealous of - things I could have done given the chance, not things I couldn't.

I'd have failed at BTL on all fronts.

LOL, you take it wrongly then, as usual ;)

It's nothing to do with being proud or ashamed or any other emotion, I just dont talk about my finances with other people i.e. how much I earn, what bonuses I get, how much savings I have etc etc etc.

Didn't your mother teach you manners like this?
