villa possible problem

hi i have booked a villa on ownersdirect yet since sending deposit the owner has been ignoring my repeated question to confirm reciept of deposit and found out the no listed does not work plus the place i sent check to as requested by owner is different to address listed on ownersdirect
i phoned the site up and they are going to enquire for me yet it all seems a bit dodgy to me now and i dont want to send more money if the listing is fraudulent
the villa was listed in march so relitively new, the site said the villa has had a lot of enquirys but the calender shows as vacent for whole year even though after i booked the owner said someone was leaving villa same day as i arrived.
ive booked for 5 weeks over xmas so a big amount of money involved if i carry on sending it:rolleyes:
am i just paranoid....what would you do? any advise greatfully recieved as dont know what i should do next. i dont want to wait too long as i will have to find other suitable accomodation and as its a large family this isnt that easy.
