PLease help honeymoon Nightmare

I have just been advised by letter from Thomas cook that our hotel we have booked for our honeymoon on 9/6/09 is having building work carried out during our stay. Does anyone know what we are entitled to in form of compensation/change of hotel? I really feel they should've advised us much sooner or at least be able to offer us an alternative accomodation/holiday without the extra charges they have advised we will have to pay.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

It depends how much the building work effect your stay. Are we talking a bit of plumbing, or refurbishment?

They probably haven't let you know until now in case the work was finished then there was no need to worry you. If you booked at a travel agent contact them and they will tell you all your options, if you did it by phone or net you need to contact them direct.
As Sturll says it depends on whats happening if its only a little work, then they're just being courteous in letting you know in advance, if its major then they will have choices of staying in that hotel regardless as it might not be a problem, or staying in that hotel and a goodwill gesture (upgrade, extra meals, moneyback?) etc or if changing hotels they will have an alternative for you if you dont like that you can choose from whats left for sale but if theres a price increase you will probably have to pay it and of course if its a cheaper 1 then you'll get a refund. Best thing to do is contact who sent you the letter.

Time to dig out the brochure and read the bit at the back to see what it says in the booking conditions. You have agreed to them so.....

we had a similar thing last year, booked to go to furerte and then we had the dreded letter, ours was TC as well

tbh it was a complete nightmare, they were no help finding alternatives and they wanted us to pay more. in the end we found a holiday in lanzarote and did not pay anymore but it was a battle from beginning to end
