£4000 for 2 ceilings sounds like an huge sum, has he had 3 quotes for the work?

He hasn't had any quotes for it, it was the people who were going to buy his house who got the quotes, can't sell it as, he has the securred debt on it.

As you don't drive and the house is in another town can you commute, bus/bike/taxi/lift share?

I would have to catch train and bus as im a student and starting uni in september.

Do you want to drive would your saved rent allow you to take lessons and buy a cheap car / would this be viable?

I would love to be able to drive, if i didn't have to pay any rent this could be used for lessons and towards a car.

If you can move in with him then would your monthly contribution stop the loan company repossing him?

They wouldn't as i am a student, so don't get that much money.

If moving in with him is not possible I would work out a plan of how long living with you it will take to sort out his debts and then decide if you can cope that long.

I have looked at his income, outgoings and what he would be able to afford to pay and it would take about 37 years to pay it off which would take him pass retirement age.

Trying to rent a bigger place together is not tackling the source of your problem which is his debts. Although I agree with princessamy that as you are currently with the rental agency its worth having a chat with them , but try not to spend out large sums to be told no.

I can see what you are saying about this, renting a bigger place, wouldn't cost that much more than iam paying now. Also we are wanting to try for a baby in a couple of years, but want to get this debt sorted out and money saved before we do and have somewhere big enough for us and a baby and were we will be settled.

get quotes for the ceiling repairs, I paid less than £2500 to re-roof a 3 bed terrace house so £4000 sounds far too high for internal repairs - but then I don't know what the damage is and how it was caused!

Also go onto the DFW board about your OH debts they have some really good advise.

    Good luck

Thankyou for your help mLz, i have spoken to my fiance again and he says that he has had to have the celing fixed before and that cost 1500. I have posted a soa on the DFW board. He has said that staying in his house is not an option.
