Water pressure has gone....

We have recently installed a new bathroom. This required isolation of the water supply to the house. We had a stopcock under the floor boards in the bathroom and as we were tiling the floof have replaced it with a Pegler stopcock situated under the bath.
There is another stopcock in the garden and yet another in the path roadside outside. We isolated the supply using the one in the garden. All was well , no leaks etc but the pressure seemed a little lower when we turned it all back on. Upon turning a tap on full bore we get an initial rush that dies back slightly which to me indicates a flow problem.... slight blockage?
It has got worse now as on occasion..... every two days or so the flow drops so much that we only get a dribble out of the taps only for it to return minutes later???! My neighbours do not seem to have a similar problem??

The stopcock in the garden is a good 2.5 / 3 feet under ground which prevents easy access to check it is lifting properly. I think this may be the problem but how do you check without digging it all up??

Any thoughts / tricks of the trade most welcome.

i am not a plumber but this is what i would try.

does this loss of presure/ flow only happen when you open a tap in the bathroom or else where in the house well?

when you opened the stopcock outside did you open it slowly or very quickly and if you opened it quickly you may have dislodged some debris inside the pipes and this is causing a blockage. OR there is a stone that has been pushed into your pipes

you might have to replace the pipe but if you have a plastic pipe you might be able to flush it through by disconnecting before it enters the house and tuning the water on.

also the valve on the roadside belongs to the waterboard but open it mad make sure that it is fully open but be very gentle with it.
1 other thing you can try is shut the stopcock in the garden and open a tap so there is no water coming out and then open the stopcock and try and dislodge some debris this way. hope this helps, if you are still unsure it will be best to call a plumber

All of the above may be true, but first check the new Peglar stop-tap under the bath. There may be an arrow indicating direction of flow and you may have fitted it reversed.

i agree i thought i did mention that obvisously not ha ha :o
  • Do you know what material the incoming main is? If it is galvanised steel there is a high possibility of a blockage due to rust etc being dislodged, if it is another material that is much less likely, although as previously stated a foreign object may have been ingressed. Check all the stopcocks are fully open, if they are and all mains outlets suffer the same problem, then it's almost certainly a blockage.
