I need a quote for BUSINESS Electricity & Gas. Please help.

Hi all

We are looking for a quote for GAS & ELECTRICITY at my sisters factory. Here are some relevant details:

GAS The 3 year contract has expired. British gas recently told me "You are now on a rolling contract".

Here are some details off a recent invoice/bill.

Billing Period 11th Oct 08 - 12th Feb 09
Gas used £508.51
Gas used 359 units = 11400 KWH

Rate 1: 1566 KWH at 6.757p per KWH
Rate 2: 9834 KWH at 4.095p per KWH

ELECTRICITY

Currently with Scottish Power until the contract expires on 31/06/09

Here are some relevant details of the last invoice:

Period 08/12/08 to 09/03/09
Charges £1004.37

Description is Business standard Price says (kWh@p) 7827@12.550
standing charge 92 days@24.000
climate change levy 7827kwh@0.4560p
START READING 369680A END 377507A UNITS 7827

We haven't got a clue if these prices are good, bad or extortionate. You need to be a scientist to work out all these different rates and standing charges etc.

Therefore, my questions are this:

1. Are these rates and prices competitive?
2. Are we being ripped off?
3. What sort of price/rate should we be aiming at?

I've had one quote from e.on which is as follows:

CONTRACT DURATION ON THE FOLLOWING GAS & ELEC ARE 12 MONTHS

Standing charge per day: 12.434 Primary Normal Unit Rate p/kWh 8.210
Standing charge per day: 8.731 Primary Normal Unit Rate p/kWh 2.780

Hope somebody can help with this minefield. You may pm me if you represent or know of a company who can help supply a competitive quote.

Thanks all

There are a number of price comparison services on the internet that also cater to business consumers. The following sites can be used to obtain a comparison, prior to entering into a new commercial supply agreement:
    www.Saveonyourbills.co.uk
    www.ukpower.co.uk
    www.energi-advice.co.uk
    www.energyadviceline.org.uk
    www.uSwitch.com

Business customers should exercise caution when comparing alternative tariffs and ensure that they do not agree to transfer without first checking that they are free from their current supply contract, as many business contacts carry early termination penalties.

Edit: the last paragraph is possibly very important to you.
Many business energy rolling contracts are on a year by year basis and could require say 60 days notice prior to the end of year to cancel.
Check your own supply contract terms & conditions for the exact terms that apply to you.

  • Another comparision site you might like to check is
    www businessenergyswitch . com
12.55p/kWh does sound very high in the market at the moment.

You will also need to ensure you have terminated your contract. If you haven't your present supply has probabily rolled your contract on at higher rates because you have no choice but to stay with them.

    Hi,

Noticed your query regarding electricity & gas quotes for your sister's factory.

Just to let you know I work for a Business Energy Broker.

Just add a few specifics to what has already been said.

Unless you served notice to terminate your existing contracts 90, yes 90 days before the end of the contract, you will, for both gas and electricity find your self 'rolled' into new contracts.

You will be committed to those contracts for at least another year before you can leave.

The rates you are likely to be committed to are generally regarded as 'penalty rates'.

We would recommend that you terminate both contracts now, to enable you to engage in commercial negotiations next time around.

    Best of Luck,

    Cheers Mark Johnson.

Both British Gas and Scottish Power will offer you a better price if you call them yourself and negitiate direct- should take you approx ten minutes

If you are looking to make further savings on your business energy bills I advise you to look at how you use the stuff. Good housekeeping, a few tweaks here and there and maybe some low cost 'quick win' energy saving products (light bulbs. standby savers etc could reduce your bills (and carbon emmissions) by around 10%. Try it it does work!

I found this information on the business energy exchange website
  • BG are offering me 2.6p for gas and 6p leccy, couldnt find any cheaper myself hurry!!
