You wouldn't want to go to Gamer or Gamezone then, as they have a large stock of pre-used games. Most modern games you still need the disk installed to play the game whether you have a serial number or not.
A lot of people complete games, and have no further use for them, it makes sense to some to sell them on or part exchange them for the sequel game or a new game. Something the likes of STEAM seem to have overlooked IMO.
They've not overlooked it at all. Games publishers universally hate the used market. It's driving down prices of new games and they get no money from sales. Whether we like trading them in and buying second hand is irrelevent to them because if there is no used game market, all the money from purchases goes to the publisher, and if it slows our buying, they still won't care, because a high priced (£40) new game that is bought once every two months is still giving them more money than buying 50 second hand games, or even two new games at £19 each.0 -
That's the World of competition, games prices are extortionate as it is, it would seem the likes of STEAM are trying to monopolise the games industry rather than allow for "fair game", its no wonder their are people out there prepared to "crack" games and post the cracks on to other users completely free of charge. They've not overlooked it at all. Spot on marleyboy.
DCFC79 - the issue is STEAM stops me from gaining anything from selling my game after use, in fact it ensures that I can't sell the game. It also artificially inflates the price of older PC games because of the reduced competition from the second hand market.
It also annoys me that I've bought something that then has absolutely no value.Stuff Happens As Wave of Ambiguity Spreads:cool:0 -

you a copy of the game from steam, ok so its not a copy on a cd but its still a copy, if you dont want to pay inflated prices then dont use steam and use game shops, websites like game or play or gamestation0 -
I would like to see the day you can legally play Half Life sagas or Quake sagas without using the likes of STEAM.
I think thats why there is such a big market for STEAM cracks.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

The reason there is such a large market for steam cracks is generally imo the same as there is for a lot of other game cracks, people don't like paying for stuff

Steam is a lot less intrusive, and problematic than most other forms DRM, no bother about X number of reinstalls allowed etc, and it has very positive benefits for the users who might like to replay their games, and most of the games available on it are also available retail at various prices (I tend to but the retail version cheapand activate it on Steam).
Resale of second hand PC games hasn't really been very viable for a lot of them (certainly online ones) for a fairly long time in my opinion, as they've tended to have unique serial keys for at least 10 years (Warcraft 2, Starcraft Unreal Tournament, Half-Life*, to name but a handful i've got here). which has meant that buying them second hand is extremely risky in terms of actually being able to use it (I still can't quite get over the second hand copy of World Of Warcraft I saw in one store...).
*I added my copy to my steam account
(I'd still got the serial key noted down but long since lost the disc). 0 -
Nobody likes to pay for stuff, thats nature, but it isnt the case, its more a case of I object to paying inflated prices for a game, thats going to be of no use to me in 3 months once I have completed it, (not all of us want the ability to re-play a game after completion), I cannot trade it in to offset the inflated price of the next level, technically I am stuck with a game I no longer want. The reason there is such a large market for steam cracks is generally imo the same as there is for a lot of other game cracks, people don't like paying for stuff
Until STEAM assess that issue, there will always be cracks to keep STEAM at bay. Nobody should be forced into an inability to sell a product on, when they no longer need it.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A
