Retainers and Redundancy

Hiya
I am writing for a friend who was layed off in August 2008, he has been recieving a retainer of about £20 per week until that stopped at the end of March, he has recieved nothing more from the company and is still claiming JSA.
I have been told by ACAS that he will have to send a written request for redundancy. (does anyone know where i can find a copy of this)
The company will then have to accept the request and pay him his redundancy (started Nov2005, so I have been told that he should be getting 4 weeks redundancy at £350.00pw and 3 weeks notice at his standard weekly pay unless his contract says a different notice period is this correct)
They can also decline the request, but then have to give him work within 4 weeks of the request being sent in (is this correct)
By requesting this redundancy, is it going to do anything to his JSA claim ?
Thanks

No one has mentioned Holiday pay outstanding... i am asuming that because he was still classed as employed while on a retainer, that he was still accruing holiday ?? would this be due with the redundancy payment ?Trying to get debt freeeeee with the help of :money:and experian credit expert

Just thought id let people know incase soeone has a similar problem...
I sent the following letter :-Without Prejudice
Dear Sirs,
After you stopped paying my retainer at the end of the 2008-2009 tax year, I contacted ACAS to see what my next step is seeing that I have had no contact with yourselves since I was laid off and put on the retainer.
They have stated that I need to send you a written request for redundancy, and that if you accept my request that you will have to send me my redundancy payment along with my notice period payment and any holidays accrued up to the point of redundancy.
I look forward to receiving your response
Yours faithfully,
My friend got a reply back within the week, to say that they now have work, and gave him a start date back to work.
Not what was expected but he now has a job again...
Thanks for the link getmore4less , i did look couldnt find anything, and this was perect.
Hope this helps
