And God help the "customer service" in the meantime.0

Rationalisation is bound to happen. I only have to think where I live there is a large Abbey and a B&B about 50 yards apart in the same road. Then within 5-10 mins walk of these, two other Abbey branches and an A&L.Hungerdunger wrote: »More importantly, what will happen to the jobs of the employees of these organisations? Well, you won't need three branches of Santander along the same 300m high street, will you?0

It said on the news today that abbey, Bradford & Bingley will all be put under the santander name next year. My elderly mother has gone into a panic as she has money invested with both companies to make sure she complied with the 50k goverment protection scheme. Where does she stand if they all become under one name and trade probably as one bank, does she have to move the money to make sure she is covered?
I see from MSE GUY that in fact her money was never protected, funny how when she opened a new savings account which had to have 'new money' they Abbey never mentioned that when they knew where the money was coming from. As she has it in a bond fixed for a year i assume she is stuck.0 -

your verbal abuse in response to my question was hardly necessary.0

I disapprove of the superfluous use of adjectives.
"obnoxious" would have sufficed.0 -

But the fundamental purpose of this site is to find & encourage the best savings & mortgage rates.
And how are Santander supposed to give us that without cost savings? After all, the silly Spanish moos actually paid for B&B savings & branches & overpaid for A&L before the current crisis really broke, whereas Nationwide got the government to pay them for Dunfermline savings & branches.
Santander paid half of what they originally offered to buy A&L when they tried a while before they did buy them, They bought them at a 'cheap' price.0 -
Santander are the 3rd most profitable bank in the world. It is very unlikely a customer would ever need to use the FSCS if they are a Santander customer.0

If A&L had remained independent, at what point would HM Government have had to bail them out?simon_templar wrote: »Santander paid half of what they originally offered to buy A&L when they tried a while before they did buy them, They bought them at a 'cheap' price.
Thier profits disintigrate in H1 of 2008. What happened in H2?0
