Problem with Dell LCD Monitor

Hello,
I purchased a Dell LCD/TV monitor around 4 years ago. Now when I made the purchase the 'return to base' warranty only lasted 12 months. However, the tv/monitor decided to pack up this morning, and there's just a blank screen, as if it wasn't turned on.
I've been through all the trouble shooting steps, and I am now writing using an old monitor (so no PC, cable issues).
I was just wondering whether this would still be covered legally by a different warranty? For example is it in UK law that products such as TV's have to last at least 5 years (allowing for general wear and tear)?
Any help on this would be much appreciated. I would contact Dell support but I know they charge for the service.
Thanks!

If it's out of manufacturers warranty then there is nothing that says a monitor must last x number of yearsNeil0 -

The Sale of Goods Act contains the basis that goods should be of 'satisfactory quality' for a reasonable period of time, although it gives no indication what that that time frame is, leaving it open for interpretation in court on a case by case basis.
For what a repair would cost compared to either the costs of kicking up a fuss through court or to purchase a new one, I wouldn't expect the SOGA to be all that useful. I personally, would consider four years to be a reasonable innings.
Plus, it's not going to be all that good if it's four years old. Treat your eyes to a new one!0 -

Exactly, there is no defined period as I said. Speak with Dell and find out how much an out of warranty repair costs.Neil0 -
Appreciate the responses. I've been having a look around and new-ones without the the TV bit aren't too expensive.
I've also looked at Dell Support and it looks like charges for repair and calls would be in the region of £100+ anyway which is more than a lot of new monitors.
The only reason I was seeing if warranty would cover it is because it was rather expensive when it was purchased, as it was a new-ish technology back then.
I'll flog it on eBay and see if I can get a chunk out of the cost of my new monitor.

Sometimes the repairs are easy if your in the know so someone way well snap it up on eBay, having said that, it is 4 years old so in monitor terms it's ancient!Neil0 -
It could be something as simple as the LCD Inverter wearing out. It's a fairly common cause of panels to stop working. They're not exactly expensive parts to source, but unless you're moderately confident at taking things apart and putting them back together, it's going to cost you to pay somebody to do it. It also might not be that and something altogether different.0
