If he did a pass-plus or advanced test that would help. And get a car with the lowest insurance group possible. It's still gonna be pricey though...0

I found Tesco to be cheapest for my daughter. Boys pay a lot more though. Can I help?0

Went through the same when my 2 sons wanted insurance. I discovered there is no easy answer to this. Premiums vary constantly and the cheapeast company yesterday will probably not be the cheapest next week, month or year.
My advice is spend some time getting quotes on the net and also phoning around, especially brokers who sometimes have access to better deals or companies that are not readily identifiable or known to joe public.
Basically it is all about putting the time and effort in. In my case the Fully Comp premiums for a 1.2 Fiesta for a 17 year old boy ranged from £4000+ down to £1500.

If you work at Tesco or at an insurance call centre you can get staff discounts. This could be up to 25%. These benefits also apply to part timers.
My cousin did this at Tesco when he was a student0 -
Exactly what we did although she started out paying around £500; must have been a lower group car.CHILLIWILLIE wrote:17 year old daughter not passed her test, Tesco online worked out at £1012:00 did it in her name to build up NC Bonus

21 yr old daughter and 17 yr old son passed within a month of each other. Got daughter with Tesco and son with Asda. Premiums varied enormously. Tesco is around £989 for daughter, same policy with Asda for her was over £3000.
As waster says you really need to shop around.0
