Hi All

Windows installed a service pack update yesterday and once installation was complete I received an error message saying that there was a compatibility issue with Avira and also a message to say that the antivirus was switched off.

Tried updating it but it still happens, does anyone know if I just reinstall it it will work ok or do I need to find a new anti virus software.

Thanks

If it was service pack 2 that you have installed then take a look at this page on the Microsoft site.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/969707

It mentions some applications that have compatibility problems and it includes Avira 8*. Is this what you are running? If this is the case try and download the very latest version of Avira to see if that fixes it. If it doesn't then it looks like you'll have to wait for an updated version. Now that SP2 has been released I should expect an update very soon.

I use Avira as well but i've not installed SP2 yet. Actually i've been getting some popups telling me about a new version of Avira, maybe this one works ok under SP2.

Yeah it was service pack 2, to be honest no ideal what version of Avira I am using though thought it was the current. Will check the version and try reinstalling and see what happens and if not probably try going back to AVG until they make a version that works.

turns out that even though I was updating Avira which I thought was updating the full software it was on version 8. had to remove this and reinstall with version 9 quite messy due to the constant pop up to tell me version 8 it wasnt compatible even when installing. Needed to uninstall it first and not let the automatic uninstall in 9 do the job.

Version 9 looks to have more features than 8 but I might be wrong.

    Thanks for the help
