Hi,
I live in rented accom. I was just looking through the house paper work when I found direct debits forms (with name address sort code and bank address on) for last years tenants.
Have my landlords broke the law? and How can I stop this happening with my paperwork?
Can I request it's destroyed in front of me when I leave the house?
Thanks

google "data protection act" and that might yield some useful pointers.0

sort codes and account codes are present on cheques and cards anyhow, so no big deal in itself.
to perpetrate fraud usually requires someone to defeat additional security checks - fake ID, knowledge of passwords, PIN codes and similar.
still sloppy of your landlord, though.0
