we got our first gas/elec bill whic runs from november to mid may and it comes to £752 for a 3 bed house!
turns out our we were using £110 a month on gas alone! yiks!
they reckon we might have problem with heating as seems awfully high! ive noticed that the room thermostat contro unit in hall is relatively old looking and whenever i turn it to 60 the heating goes cold and if it is at 65 or above is v hot! is this normal?
any recommendations on who i should get to service central heating? British Gas? local plumber?
many thanks

6 months combined usage seems possibly slightly higher than it may have been but not too bad, was it an estimate at start or beginning?

Depends on company, tariff, usage of gas and electric (electric may be high or visa versa) what you use for each and if you have taken steps for energy efficient savings as far as possible already
    Nothing to see here

Doubt anything is wrong really? £752 for 6 months for both gas and electric? Has you bill opened/ended on an estimate?

May I suggest thermostatic radiator valves be installed on each radiator during this summer? They have been one of our best money savers during the past year. Our hall thermostat seemed to have a life of its own and the temperatures in the lounge etc bore no resemblance to the actual temps we'd set. (it was often far too hot). Your bill was similar to ours before we had them - now we're paying about £300 less for gas........

Hi regarding a boiler service go to a local plummer, BG are not cheep, its appx £60 from our local plummer . But they will normally tell what a service costs over the phone. We have a 3 bed house and we had a combi boiler put in 18mth ago best thing ever , our gas bill last August for 3mth was £10.90, and the our two bills so far this year have been Nov-Feb £87 and Feb-May £43, I know we keep the heating lower than some people but we did not go cold. Now the heatings off for the summer( even though its like winter today) the boiler only comes on when the hot tap is on so it will be fingers crossed another low bill in August.
I don't know if any of this helps but if you do want a combi boiler it will prob cost £2,600 to have put in, but we have seen a big difference the August bill before the new boiler was £65 just on heating the water so it did make a big difference to us.
