hypothyroidism and travel insurance?

Hi guys,

I'm looking to book travel insurance for a trip to USA...have it booked from 12th June to 15th September, but turns out I'm actually leaving on 3rd September, so am getting temp. cover for that. Thing is, I've just wondered recently whether my hypothyroidism would mean that I have to get special travel insurance? Can't remember if I even mentioned it on the other insurance, as it's never caused a problem. I've never been hospitalized because of it, etc, and even if I don't take the meds (bad, I know), it never causes a problem.

Just wondering where I stand on the matter and if anyone could recommend a cheap insurer? Feel a bit cheated tbh, as booked initial insurance via BUNAC (student travel company) because they told me I had no other option and *had* to get insurance via them, but it recently transpired I didn't. *sighs*.

You should make the insurer aware of your condition. In my case it has not affected the cost of my policy, but providers may differ.
    Gone ... or have I?

Yes you need to declare all medical conditions.

You will also need special insurance for such a long trip as most only cover up to 31 or 45 days away.

most of the trip is already insured...just from 3rd to 12th that it's not, as I've ended up flying out earlier than I anticipated.

As for the meds, I forget on occasion...plus recently the GP messed up the prescription, and have just got that sorted. No ill effects, though :).

    Thanks for the advice, guys!

I also have an underactive thyroid and always declare it and its always been covered at normal cost.
