I've just bought a PS3 today - other than the obvious use for games and blu-ray can anyone comment on other useful aspects for it, or provide any tips to get the best out of it?
A few things I am wondering are:
is it worth using as an upscaling dvd player?
Whats the internet browser like?
I read somewhere that BBC IPlayer will be available - is this true? If so what about downloading HD Footage?
Are there any useful downloads available?
Anyone got any useful ideas?

If you have videos stored on a network shared drive you can play those. I hear that they make good WPA cracking tools if you can get the GPU's working right.Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.0

It'll certainly upscale DVDs if you're using the HDMI connection. As to whether it's worth bothering with or not, that's for you to decide.Whats the internet browser like?
Horrible. But don't take my word for it, try it out yourself.I read somewhere that BBC IPlayer will be available - is this true?
Yes, just go to the BBC iPlayer website using the web browser. If so what about downloading HD Footage?
No idea, I've never tried it. I don't see why not though.0 -
If you want a better web browser, you may be able to install a linux distro and use firefox with it.Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.0

You can always use the spare computing cycles to do something like Folding@home.
This is the largest distributed computing network in the world.

It's upscaling ability is well known for being excellent.
For downloading HD content try HD-Trailers.net Blog and then convert them to mp4 or try http://www.davestrailerpage.co.uk/ & http://www.demo-world.eu/trailers/high-definition-trailers.php
Also go to the Playstation store for demos/trailers etc...
Also use your PS3 to stream video & music from your PC, music sounds great going through the surround.
Try PlayTV which is a freeview tuner & turns your PS3 into a PVR, you can record TV onto your PS3 hard drive & even put onto a pen drive etc to then view on your PC...
Enjoy your new toy....;)What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about !!!0 -
I have now set up the Playstation and got to say the interface seems quite poor. I've put some family photos, a divx file, and also an HD trailer from one of the sites mentioned above, onto a USB stick to view on the PS3. However I'm not sure how to view these - do I have to copy the files to the PS3 hard drive, or can they be viewed directly from the USB stick? Either way I can't find a way. When I put the USB stick in the port, the system acknowledges that a stick has been inserted, but gives no option to view the files - it just seems to freeze for a short time on the USB description on screen, and then nothing else happens. Am I missing something here?0

it does need improvement but just click triangle and then display all
you will be able to browse the files as if you were on a pc
but if you want to copy photos you need to go to the usb device in the photos section and do that
same for videos and music
otherwise it wont workBack by no demand whatsoever.0
