This link would be a good place to start:

Q4 looks to be of particular relevance. Presumably there is a specific reason why you want H&S details, why not phone the HSE Infoline to get specialist guidance on your case?
  • there should be a copy on a notice board surely?

Tell her to go direct to her H&S rep (assuming they have one!)

2nd question, can a supervisor open post with says private and confidential, to be opened by addressee only!

She will be sending a letter to her production manager today but he is not back at work till monday!

Where I work, another manager MIGHT open post labelled as P&C, although probably not if it said "to be opened by addressee only".

We wouldn't if it was hand addressed and obviously internal, UNLESS the manager was away for longer than a week.
Signature removed for peace of mind
  • How is your wife supposed to adhere to / uphold a policy she's not allowed to read?? Daft. I believe any company over a certain number of employees (5? 10?) MUST display a large format / poster of H&S policy.

As for private post, wherever I have worked previously it has been assumed that private post is NOT opened unless something is said otherwise (e.g. "I'm away next 2 days but expecting a bill / important notice..." etc).

i need the health and safety policy amongst many other policy to show a minimum of 30 examples where management have knowingly breaches rules and regs. she asked for the policy as it would help the mrs with a fothcoming diciplinary, she was told she doesnt need it so no she couldnt have it. the company is quite big, it own site saying "These two new facilities have allowed the company to embark on a massive expansion plan with turnover expected at over £20m in 2008. Further opportunities are always being sought as the new facilities invite additional capacity. "

THe leeter was a direct reply from the wifes letter stating if she wanted to change her statement it had to be within 3 working days (today being the final day), however the manager who wrote the letter to my wife is on holiday till Monday, and as its the supervisor who is involved Im unsure if she has any right to open the letter which is clearly marked P&C, to be opened by addressee ONLY!

she also asked for a copy of the production sheet which relates to the disciplinary hearing, and was refused that saying it was written in pink so wont photocopy, she would use this to prove the quality control employee didnt do his job correctly!

Post deleted as you may be making a rod for your own back.

It took me all of 10 seconds to find her employers website and a further 5 seconds to find their health and safety policy.
