Hi all
Im in a little bit of a panic here!
I am receiving DLA for my son and have been since last September but i did not realise that i had to inform the people for working tax credits!
They made a real messup a few years ago with our money as they over paid us and now we recieve nothing from them as we are paying the money back year by year.
I also increased my hours last year from 18 to 26 and i did not tell them about that either, but my friend has told me that as i am not receiving any money from them at the moment as they have overpaid us not to worry.
Can anyone put my mind at rest here please....have i committed fraud by not telling them about getting my DLA and that my hours have increased!
I hope someone can help!
TIA
Donna

Generally you get more money from Tax Credits if you have a disabled child :-) so hopefully the worst case scenario for you is that you pay them back faster.

Thanks daska that has put my mind at rest a little!0

The disability award is quite a lot of money per year, and there is also the severe disability compnent if your son is on high rate so you must tell them as it may mean £3,000 plus per year! That would quickly pay off any overpayment so get on the phone!
NB Disabled Child element £2,670
severely disabled child element (HRC) £1,075.Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!0 -
Wow, thanks SuziQ i will give them a ring. Ive probably lost out for last year though....never mind.
Thanks very much.0 -
You will not loose out for last year I insisted that they back date my Tax credit and they back dated for 2 years owing me £5000 so argue the point with them and take no rubbish LOL Also get claiming carers allowance cause that gives you more money for a disabled child with tax credits#1200 - Sealed Pot challenge £1263/£300

Ive just phoned them and given them all the details that they needed.
I told them when i got awarded my DLA but she never said that i would be awared any more money for having it, she just wanted to know what componant i get ie middle rate care and lower rate mobility. She also needed some details off both mine and my husbands P60 but said to phone back when i can give her both of the details together.
All in all it was not as painful as i thought that it would be and i am relieved now that i have made the changes!
Thanks everyone for all your help and advice.0 -

I want to apply for disability element of working tax credits on the basis that I cannot sustain an 8 hour day or 5 days a week. I just started a business and I'm only 26 years old and I have terrible back pain since I gave birth to my 4 year old twins. Because of this I can't work as much as I have to and I pay a sub-contractor now to do the work that I should do.
On the points based system I don't qualify for DLA from what I read on the internet, but does someone think that I can apply for Disability Element of Working Tax Credits?
Thank you.0 -
DLA is not based on a points system, are you sure that you have not been reading about ESA/ IB. If you go to www.direct.gov.uk and search for DLA, this will give you more accurate information.Gone ... or have I?0
