I originally wrote to NATWEST in March relating to my bank charges, they insisted i filled in a monthly expenditure which i did. They wrote back saying they did not consider me in financial hardship bla bla....even though i have had an attachment of earning for council tax, i am also in arreas with my gas, electric and water. I have countless CCJs and my dirtect debits are bouncing. My marriage broke down leaving me as a single parent and i am struggling big time. I wrote again asking thenm to look at it within 7 days or i would go to omnubudsman.... I have had no reply...any advice what i should do next? Do you think i am likely to get this money back?

I've had a similar timescale to you. I've now passed my case to the FOS. Unfortunately they are a month behind in opening the post:mad: and have told me that I probably won't know anything for 4-7 months:eek: However each case is different, I'm single with no dependants.
I would contact the FOS and lodge a complaint, immediately. I would also seek advice from CAB or a debt counsellor to try and stop future charges / get your finances back under control. Also open a new account with a different bank and tell your old bank that you regard your account as in dispute, this will prevent it being passed onto a collections company and should freeze any future charges / interest.
At every step I would stress that it is not only you being affected but your children as well. Good luck and keep hassling, phoning, writing - be the problem customer who won't go away;)0 -
this is a quote from guidence on the F.S.A website on what is to be considered indicative of financial hardship by financial institutions when considering individual cases, Reply to natwest quoting the information below and highlighting the examples that apply to you and pointing out that it would appear the OFT disagrees with them and if they don't give your case serious and fair consideration then the OFT is your next port of call, it might encourage a better response, worth a try.
“In making an assessment of financial difficulty the firm will take into account:”
a.
evidence of changes in lifestyle, including loss of employment; disability; serious illness; imprisonment; relationship breakdown; death of a partner; starting a lower paid job; parental/carer leave; and starting full-time education;
b.
evidence of the following events:
i.
items repeatedly being returned unpaid due to lack of available funds;
ii.
failing to make loan repayments or other commitments;
iii.
discontinuation of regular credits;
iv.
notification of some form of insolvency or court proceedings;
v.
regular requests for increased borrowing or repeated rescheduling of debts;
vi.
making frequent cash withdrawals on a credit card at a non-promotional rate of interest; and
vii.
repeatedly exceeding a credit card or overdraft limit without agreement (and, in this regard, where a complainant has incurred over £500 in unauthorised overdraft charges in the previous 12 months, that is to be treated as indicative of financial difficulty)."0 -
I really feel for you.
If its any consolation i was assessed has having financial hardship by Nat West a month ago and im still waiting to receive a offer.
I dont know if this is 100% correct but i have been told that the FOS can fast track certain claims if the person claiming is in serious financial problems.Has anybody else heard this? Or can they advise you where to get more information?
Its a idea to try what ceryl82 is suggesting but in the mean time start thing off with the FOS and if Nat West start to pay ball then you could then stop your action.
I wish you luck.
Keep your chin up and dont give up. :mad:
This site is full of helpfull supportive people.
