Corrupt keyboard when using Windows Mail

The symbols are all over the place e.g. the # is coming up when I press the pound symbol (can't find the pound at all), the @ is coming up when I press " and vice versa, etc.
It only seems to be happening in Windows Mail. When I use OpenOffice Writer or MS Works, everything is fine.
Any suggestions, please?

check your keyboard settings arent setup for US

Thanks but I don't think it's that. I think it's something to do with my Windows Mail settings but I can't find anything relevant.0
