Transferring money from the UK to Europe

Hi, I may have to make a transfer to Holland from the UK soon.
Could any kind person tell me what the costs involved might be, and how they could be minimised?
I've been requested to make a bank transfer. But my bank (hbos) charges £9.50 for doing the transfer online, or £19.50 if it's done in a branch.
Is there a cheaper way of doing the transfer? Thanks

I opened an account with Ivobank (http://www.ivobank.com/ivobanktransfermoneyoverseas.html) to send money to Europe. It takes a few days to open an account with them as they deposit a small amount of money in your main bank account to verify it. The exchange rates look very good (1.7% loading on the wholesale exchange rate), but I haven't actually used the service yet.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning0 -

http://www.currencies.co.uk/ are excellent and will give you a better rate than your bank. (I presume you are talking about largish sums?)RIP independent MSE.
