I'm trying to open a dss audio file on ubuntu using a program on wine but I can't seem to figure it out. I don't know much about what a dss file is. Is it a binary file? Not that this makes much sense to me either
Basically I'm trying to use Express Scribe with wine and open this file with it but I can't.
Does anybody know how to do this?
Thanks.

Why don't you use the Linux version instead of having the pain of using the Windows version through Wine?
dss is an audio file format for recording voice.
Otherwise, it's not hard to search the Internet to find solutions....

Hi
As well as the links that trcooke has posted above, it looks like this link explains it.

Thanks for your replies
I have been googling but perhaps not the right things so far
I'll check out the links and see if I can sort out the problem. I think the main problem is that the dss files won't play in certain versions of Express Scribe.
Thanks again for both of your posts

Nope, it just won't play dss files
Seems to be a generic problem with the software.
EDIT: Back again!
Decided to look for another piece of software and looks like it's sorted by using this instead. Thanks again for the help and suggestions.

This software seems to play the file no problem. Hopefully nothing will go wrong otherwise I'll be back here bothering you all again!
